Power tools are, simply put, tools with motors. The operator’s work is reduced to a mere fraction with a power tool, and he may even perform tasks that are impossible to complete by hand. Most power tools have manual equivalents, usually called hand tools.

In this day and age of DIYs, there is precious little that you can hope to achieve without the essential power tools in your home. Listed below are some of these tools – the ones that you HAVE to have to make life easier.

The corded drill is an essential home repair tool. This versatile tool can be used to drill and drive screws. Please remember that this tool should have variable speed, to control the speed at which the task is performed. A reverse feature and a throw of 3/8” are additional bonuses.

The cordless drill is one up on the corded drill. One must remember to ask for a demo before purchase, to make sure that the balance and the grip are not a problem. A kit contains two battery packs and a charger, and 12 volts is ideal for home use.

The cordless circular saw belongs to the new era of power tools. The basic units with smaller blades and slower speeds are safe for home use, and can be used to cut and saw. Since they use up a lot of power (18 volts and above), cordless circular saws have restricted battery life. Buying two battery packs would be a smart move to ensure continuous work.

The sabresaw, or the jigsaw, is a flexible power tool that can cut almost any hard material, and can also bevel and crosscut. The tool comes with options in blades, but it is not equipped to cut through thicker materials.

The cordless pivoting head flashlight rotates 90 degrees to cover a wider area. This is an essential tool for any home, and your best friend during an emergency. Always buy the one with the wide beam, with a working light.

The rechargeable spotlight is your best bet when you have to go looking for your lost cat at night. The beam can be spotted a mile away, and you will get 30 minutes of continuous use. Always ask for one that allows hands-free operation.

A heat gun is a must in every household. Its most important function is to dry anything. It can also be used to defrost, soften, as well remove paint, among other things.
