Canyon Lake, a reservoir located on the Guadalupe River in Texas, offers loads of recreational opportunities for people of all ages and interests. Nestled amidst the lush landscape of Texas Hill Country, Canyon Lake was originally developed in the mid-1960s by the US Army Corps of Engineers to provide flood control and water conservation, but today consists of eight park areas suitable for camping, hiking, picnicking and more. The Guadalupe River is also a terrific locale for practicing water sports like boating, fishing, sailing and kayaking, among a number of other exciting activities. What's more, equipment rental is available, making it possible for visitors to engage in as many different sports and activities as they would like during their trip.

Alternatively, those who simply wish to immerse themselves in the peaceful surroundings of nature can take a scenic drive around the lake. There are various vista points to stop at along the way, offering visitors breathtaking photo opportunities or just the chance to enjoy the beautiful view; and it's also a great way to see different parts of the Canyon Lake area in one visit.

Canyon Lake provides a perfect recreational getaway for families, groups and individuals alike, simply because it caters to every type of interest - from adventurous outdoor activities to a simple, relaxing retreat. Furthermore, visitors will find that there is a great deal to do around the lake area; for instance, there is another excellent recreational area nearby called Wonder World Park, where visitors can explore various caves, a wildlife park, and the spectacular San Marcos River.

If you love the outdoors, but would prefer to stay in a hotel rather than to camp out, there are a number of great accommodation options, such as the Hilton Hotel (http://www.hilton.com/ ), in the nearby cities of San Antonio and Austin. Canyon Lake is located only thirty-five miles northeast of San Antonio, and forty miles Southwest of Austin, so it's simple to hop in a car and drive to the lake for a day of fun and relaxation, then return to the comforts and conveniences of a hotel at night.

If you're looking for a superb way to spend a week, a weekend, or even just a day out in the splendours of nature, Canyon Lake is the perfect place to do just that. With its stunning scenery alongside an opportunity to partake in countless activities, this popular recreational spot will undoubtedly provide a fantastic experience for anyone who visits.
