A top-ranked web site is every web developer’s dream. It attracts the maximum traffic and results in higher sales. But how does it happen?

The secret is to place certain keywords in the right places.

Certain Keywords Contain the Magic

Keywords target a niche audience. Focus your advertisements on the most traffic-laden keywords pertaining to your area of business-interest. Groups of two to five keywords or proper key-phrases generate more traffic.

Research your keywords carefully. Visit the top-ranked sites; check out the keyword meta tag of each site with the help of "view source" feature of Internet explorer and compile the top listings. Evaluate the most targeted sites and number of searches performed on particular keyword or key phrases, then sort out and highlight the most profitable keywords for indexing and listing your business.

Google Tip

Do you know that Google has its own keyword suggestion tool? You can find it at https://adwords.google.com/select/main?cmd=keywordsandbox. This tool provides information about related keywords. It also helps you find synonyms for the words to target relatively untouched areas.

Overture is an independent, premiere, pay-per-click search engine. It provides search results of top-ranked search engines. You can view the data in hard numbers on how much a phrase was searched, allowing you to directly compare with the number of sites targeting each phrase. Its free search tool can be reached at http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion.

Http://teoma.com/ provides related search results and keyword suggestions. It presents an amazing array of keywords you hadn’t thought of.

7Search is the PPC engine. To build your subscriber base, use their keyword tool to create a free account, then log in. Click on "Edit Bids" and go to "Keyword Suggestions."

Word Tracker gives you the strongest keywords with the most searches, for $225 a year annually. It has a free version too, but without the vast features of the one you pay for.

Web Host Statistics provides a free program for analyzing web site access. Log on to the server and view the statistics compiled through AWStats. It shows which keywords and key phrases visitors use to locate your site.

Online Dictionaries and Thesauruses can be the most useful to find additional words and synonyms for the keywords.

Ranking.com doesn’t research keywords and key phrases, but it can show in numbers how much traffic a particular site receives.

Apply the right keywords, and watch the magic happen!
