Fun does come in small packages!

Owning a ferret is a lot of work, but can be rewarding too. For those who are looking for a pet that can keep them occupied and amused, this may be the perfect animal for the task. The ferret is a small creature -- one that can be easily lifted and carried about.

But don't let size fool you, they are very inquisitive and amused by their surroundings. They need attention not really in the manner of caring for them, but rather in providing it with fun things to do. If you don't see to this need, he will find something to do for fun that you may not like.

When you decide to get one of these little guys, you should take the time to learn about their needs. You will need to purchase a few things to get your self started -- including a proper cage, vitamins, the right ferret foods, and toys. You should also plan to take the animal to the vet within the first few weeks that you own it. It will need to visit the vet yearly, must like any other pet that you may have.

Owning any pet is a lot of time and commitment -- just as much as having a baby in the home. You are responsible for entertaining this little creature and making sure that it stays safe.

The best option for someone considering getting a ferret is to head to the animal shelter and spend some time with one. This will give you a good idea of what ferrets are like, as well as help you to find the one that is best suited for your needs and your capabilities. A baby ferret, known as a kit, is a lot of work, and needs to be trained. This may not be the best way to go if you are getting your very first ferret.

If you want a pet that is small and playful, a ferret might be right for you!
