Digital photographs can look every bit as good when printed as any photo captured on film. You will be able to produce fine professional quality prints if you have the right equipment and if you are willing to put time and effort into learning how to achieve a great finished photo. There is a wealth of information and tips available online to tell you in simple terms how to achieve the results you’re aiming for. In addition, much of the information is low or no cost.

Here are some of the common myths, which you may have heard disseminated about digital photos.

1. Myth – You’ll never be able to achieve a professional quality print with a home photo printer.

Fact – With a good quality printer and proper attention to settings, both on the image storage device and the printer, good quality ink and paper, you will be able to develop digital photos as good as any coming from a commercial digital photo printing service. However, it’s important to realize that for you to get high quality, your camera must have high resolution. Anything less than 2 mega pixels are useful only for onscreen viewing.

2. Myth – Digital prints fade rapidly

Fact – Researchers are constantly developing new inks, longer lasting colors and better paper to ensure that your digital photo prints will stand the test of time and be viewable for many years.

3. Myth – Photo paper and ink are difficult to load and use

Fact – New technology is constantly working to upgrade and improve products. A recent development combined the digital-photo printer paper and ink in one compact package so both are loaded and removed at the same time. This means you will never run out of photo paper before the ink cartridge is empty.

4. Myth – Photo printers are slow

Fact – Technology is constantly working to increase both printing speed and quality. A high-end digital photo printer can produce a good quality photo in 60-90 seconds. Of course, usually the more you pay, the faster turn-around time you can expect, although there are some economical photo printers which can provide a acceptable finished print in about sixty seconds.

5. Myth – My computer can’t handle the demands of the photo printer

Fact – Today’s printers are designed to work with or separate from the computer. You can also use other methods to view your photos, such as on a television set. Many recent photo printers are able to perform limited editing tasks before printing your image.

6. Myth – Photo printers are bulky

Fact – Today’s photo printers are compact and fit easily on a desk or entertainment console beside the television. They are also lightweight and easy to take along wherever you go. It’s an easy way to share photos online as well.

7. Myth – Printing without a computer limits my printing options.

Fact – Today’s photo printers are designed to perform many of the same functions as photo-editing software you would find on a computer. You are able to crop images, eliminate red-eye and some other common photo printing tasks.
