Massage Techniques: What’s The Difference?

If you take a look around the web, you’ll quickly find that there are many different massage techniques that you can learn and do. Why there are different techniques and what difference really does it make for you to get one massage instead of another? Although it may sound confusing when you just want someone to give you a massage to get rid of the tension that you feel, these different massage techniques all have their own benefits to your body. Each offers something that’s a bit more unique than the next.

For example, consider acupressure. This type of massage is one that has been used for hundreds of years, dating well back into ancient Chinese medicines. Pressure is applied to the areas of your body that are causing blockage of the blood flow, or life blood, of the body. The Qi, as it is called, is said to be blocked from flowing through the body which then causes ailments. By restoring this flow, it improves your overall health and well being.

In other types of massage techniques, the goal is different. Some will stimulate healing in the muscle groups so as to improve the recovery time after a long workout. Others will improve your immune system, aid in muscle growth and still others are helpful for other reasons. Each offers something different than the last.

When it comes to choosing the right massage techniques you’ll want to talk with your massage provider to find out what they recommend for you. You may also have specific preferences for some type of massage. You may not like the pressure of a deep tissue massage, for example. Talk to the person giving you your massage. Find out what they believe is the right massage technique for your needs and your desires so as to provide you with the amount of relaxing you need.
